The panel industry in Taiwan is calling on the local government to provide panel makers with additional funding to develop new technologies and products in order to help the makers stay competitive globally.
Panel makers used OLED as an example, stating it is important for the government to provide funding for equipment to produce the technology.

The makers pointed out that there are more than 20 OLED material makers competing to obtain orders from panel makers and that Taiwan OLED material makers are at a disadvantage.
The makers added that it is not that they do not have the technology, but that they do not have the funding to purchase the facilities to further develop technologies like OLED due to the continuing losses that Taiwan's panel industry is facing.
This is not the first time Taiwan's panel industry has called on its government for assistance in 2012, but there has yet to be any agreements with the government.
