Sony aims to ship 20-25 million LCD TVs in 2010 worldwide of which six million will be LED-backlit models, and 3D LCD TV shipments are expected to reach 10% of its total shipments in 2010, according to Sony Taiwan.
Sony on March 9 launched 15 new LCD TV models in Taiwan, 10 of which are mid-range to high-end LED-backlit models, the company said. Sony expects its LCD TV shipments in the Taiwan market to increase by 20-30% in 2010.
A 32-inch model from the mid-range LED-backlit series is scheduled to be launched in the second half of April in Taiwan, and it will be priced NT$29,900 (US$9,419.29), only NT$4,000 higher than the 32-inch high-end CCFL-backlit model, the vendor said.
Sony will increase its LCD TV outsourcing to Taiwan to 40% in 2010 from less than 20% in 2009, the company said.
Major OEM makers are Foxconn Electronics, Wistron and Compal Electronics, industry sources said.
