Large-size LCD panel makers Samsung Electronics, LG Display, AU Optronics (AUO) and Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) are expected to generate record shipments of TV panels for the fourth quarter thanks to the booming holiday sales of LCD TVs, according to market sources.

TV vendors' panel inventory levels are running low after the strong LCD TV sales during the National Day holiday in China in October and the Black Friday week last month, the sources said. The vendors are now replenishing their panel inventories in preparation for Christmas shopping in the US and Europe, and for the Lunar New Year holiday in early 2010, the sources added.

The fourth quarter is the traditional weak season for LCD panel makers, as clients usually make preparations for the year-end holiday sales in the third quarter. But this year, fourth-quarter LCD TV panel shipments are expected to hit all-time high, the sources commented.

LCD TV sales in China during the 2010 Lunar New Year holiday are expected to reach three million units, the sources said.

LCD TV sales in the US during this year's Black Friday week are expected to increase over 10% on year to about 3.5-4 million, the sources said.
